Colossians 1:15 (NIV) – “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.”
When I opened my Bible this morning, I turned directly to this scripture. It hit me in such a profound way that led me to write this poem. This one verse holds so much truth that profusely states the true and divine nature of God. It describes the Almighty and powerful nature of God. Jesus Christ is not only equal with God; He is God and is the exact representation of the invisible God. It is such a powerful statement for a man who was born in a lowly stable, lived His life performing many miracles and carried Himself humbly and a little lower than the angels. But because of His unconditional and unfailing love for us, He died a criminal’s death so we could be forgiven and set free once and for all for our sin and shame.
Infinite cosmos
Infinite colors
Power of His Word
Vastness of His creation
He displays His mighty power.
Creator of all life
Abyss of this reality
Perfect in all His ways
Conduit of this wondrous mystery
Goes beyond my comprehension.
The fear of God is profound.
To be in awe and amazed
By the wonder to experience
The vastness of His agape love,
I'm simply left speechless.
To experience His touch
My soul's left breathless,
In this vast expanse
I feel God's agape love,
Without limitation or doubt.
With grace as wide as drought
With love as deep as the ocean
With hope as high as the heavens
He made me to be His
And to never walk alone.
God’s love for us is so vast and beyond our comprehension. For me to fear God is a healthy fear and one in which I’m in awe of the embodiment of His creation and His love for us. This reminds me of one of the Ten Commandments to “Honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself,” taken from Matthew 19:19 (NIV).
This is another very profound statement from Jesus as He spoke to a rich young man. It’s at the heart and soul of the Ten Commandments and of mankind referring to our relationship with Him and others. It’s a bridge between this world and God’s eternal kingdom. “AGAPE LOVE” are two words that are awe consuming, powerful, humble, and everlasting. We’re not to merely show love and compassion for others, but one placed in action, to choose agape love in every circumstance. It’s the love reflected of God’s own heart that invites others to see and experience His compassion and grace.
In a world where chaos is the norm and evil channels the great divide, this command becomes a significant demonstration of one’s act of faith. Through every interaction, it challenges us to reach out in humility and loving kindness without prejudice, to support and serve those in need, and do so faithfully through the love of Christ. Imagine the transformation that would take place if we truly embodied this principle.
Today, not tomorrow as we plow through the challenges of our lives, I encourage you to embrace this divine principle. Be the ambassador of God’s love, breaking down the strongholds that separate us and be a part of the restoration process of compassion and understanding. If we each do our part within the communities we interact with, imagine the difference it would make. It takes only one small light to set the soul ablaze. Are you that small light? I believe each of us has it within us to be the beacon of God’s loving kindness that can be the start of a ripple effect within your community.
The vastness of God’s love and His creation is way beyond one’s comprehension. That’s why in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV), Jesus states, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Today, as I reflect on the expanse of God’s creation and His agape love, I hope to challenge you and pray our actions reflect the depth of our love for God and one another as we go about and live each day through this divine principle.
Are you willing to be a beacon of loving kindness? Will you open your heart to God’s love and let His strength work through your weakness in your community? Reflect, pray and ask God to reveal to you how you might serve others in your community reflecting His love and compassion. Start a ripple effect of transformation within your community. With God, all things are possible.
Oh my Anne this gives me goose bumps. To know he loved us so much that God gave up his son so we might live a life of freedom from sin. And to spread his love among our brothers and sisters. Our world needs this. We need to honor our father in the best way we know how. Have a blessed day.
So beautiful and so meaningful! Love this!
