Several months ago, I wrote a poem titled “Grit and Grace.” Well, that poem has now been put to music. And guess what, the song is called, “Grit and Grace.” That poem has and will always be very special. It deals with persevering through life here on earth and not giving up when we face challenges and/or trials.
We have a choice to either hide away and let the Devil (the enemy) take control or we can let go and totally surrender it all to God. Every morning when I wake up, I try and make the conscious effort to press on for the endurance of the race we call life.
The word “Grit” reminds me of determination to persevere and press on and not give up. “Grace” is the “free” gift of eternal life/salvation that God gave each of us meaning we are forgiven. Jesus paid the price and bore the shame when he died on the cross. Three days later, he rose from the grave and later ascended to heaven to be at the Father’s right hand.
Each of us are created anew in Christ when we chose or choose to accept Jesus into our hearts to have that relationship with him and ask to be forgiven of our sins. We repent and have the desire to turn from our former way of living to live in the new life with Jesus Christ.
Personally, I no longer have the desire to live the life where I’m ruled by my own selfish desires and self-pity which I did for a long time. It takes me reminding myself daily to have the “Grit” or determination to persevere for the endurance of the race or life and being thankful for God’s “Grace” knowing I am truly forgiven. Ultimately, I will be home with Jesus, but while I’m here on earth, I choose “Grit” and God’s “Grace” to keep pressing forward.
All of you mean so much to me and have a special place in my heart. I’m still in awe of God’s promises and how he has truly blessed me. That is why I feel led to share this second song with you. We all need to persevere for the endurance of life as we know it here on earth until God calls us home. Don’t give up, keep pressing on and surrender it all to God. I do ask as I did previously that this does NOT get shared on social media. It needs to stay right here as this is meant for you the subscribers. I appreciate your understanding.
Lyrics to “Grit and Grace”
VERSE (1)
Insecurities race to my soul
Activates my mind to seize control
Always seeking others approval
Stuck in the past needing to refuel
My heart’s broken and truly fractured
While my head is in need of answers
What can I do to relieve this pain
You come and remind me once again
THAT
VERSE (2)
Need to let go of all these burdens
That weigh me down and serve no purpose
Feel like this always happens to me
I want to let go and be set free
What do you want me to learn today
When all I’m doing is hiding away
Falling apart and breaking in to
I know I have nothing to prove
FOR
CHORUS
You created me anew in Christ
Reminding me of his sacrifice
You’re moving in ways behind the scenes
Filling my soul with your hope and peace
All that I am, and I have is yours
You’re unfailing love is what secures
To persevere that strengthens my faith
The grit and grace to endure the race
BRIDGE
With grit and grace, I choose to press on
For I know this world is not my home
With grit and grace, all is forgiven
Tired of being the devil’s victim
I won’t give up, I choose to let go
I no longer live, in my shadow
Seize God’s love, let it flow to your heart
Saved by grace to not be set apart.
AS
Below is scripture that is relevant to the lyrics of this song.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) – What this means is that those who became Christians became new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT) – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew he would be his afterward. Now he is seated in the place of highest honor beside God’s throne in heaven.
Psalm 143:8 (NLT) – Let me hear of your unfailing love to me in the morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer.
Psalm 143:10 (NLT) – Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.
Psalm 86:11 (NLT) – Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, that I may honor you.
Galatians 6:9 (NLT) – So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NLT) – We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NLT) – That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So, we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.
May God bless you and keep you! May his face shine upon you! Thank you for listening, reading and subscribing.
