GLORIOUS VICTORIOUS - DonnyMac
SUNDAY IS COMING - Phil Wickham
I saw him in the garden
I heard him through the trees,
His voice was like a breath of wind
The poet of grace whispered through the breeze.
He said, I am here to guide you
I will never leave your side,
I will be your shelter day and night
The poet of grace says, "I am redeemed!"
He was despised and rejected
He was crushed for my iniquities,
Yet by His wounds I am healed
The poet of grace freed me from my brokenness.
In His redemption I find hope.
In the resurrection of His love
My heart, mind, and soul are made whole.
The poet of grace rescued me from sin.
Who is this poet of grace you ask?
He is Jesus Christ the great "I Am!"
By the power of the cross
Forgiven I stand in awe of the great "I Am!"
Death is a reality of life in our broken world. When we’re born, we know we will eventually die. Sobering thought if you really think about it. Many believe all good things come to an end, but do they? By celebrating Easter as a reminder of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, this earthly idea was turned on it’s head by His victory over the grave. He gave us hope that death does not come to an end, but rather, “what is mortal may be swallowed up by life” (2 Corinthians 5:4 (NIV)). Jesus came to dwell and to live among us (John 1:14 (NIV)) knowing full well He would face the pain and mortality of His own death to make it possible for us to be forgiven to live in freedom through the resurrection and the power of His Spirit at work in us. This is the glorious truth that we celebrate at Easter.
Why do we celebrate Easter? Easter is the day on which we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, agreeing with the angels that “He is not here: he is risen!” (Luke 24:6-7 (NIV)). Jesus predicted His death and resurrection as this is the central belief of Christian faith.
In and through Jesus Christ, we rest in the hope of salvation. Jesus was crushed for our iniquities and by His wounds we are healed, (Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)). Jesus, the lamb of God, died on the cross at Calvary to free us from all our sin and shame. He rose on the third day that we would live with Him eternally. There is no other way to the Father except through Jesus Christ, (John 14:6 (NIV)). We cannot buy or earn our way to experience salvation. It is given to us freely, but we must make the individual choice to freely accept it. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) backs this up.
If Jesus Christ had not died and rose on the third day, our faith would be null and void, and we would still be enslaved to sin. Instead, Jesus trampled and defeated death in this beautiful and powerful way so we can be free at last. We are left with this wonderful hope of salvation to hold on to as we live temporarily on earth. Our bodies are perishable, but when united with the imperishable, then this saying that is written will come true:
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” (1 Corinthians 15:54-57 (NIV)). The future is eternal life. Our focus should be on the hope of salvation, the poet of grace, Jesus Christ, who is the great “I Am!” This glorious hope and future are worth celebrating. Death is not the end.
How do you plan to celebrate Easter? Have you placed your faith and trust in the hope of salvation, Jesus Christ? My hope is that you have. If not, please reach out to me, as I would be more than happy to try and answer any question you have.
