BLESS THE BROKEN ROAD - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
In the silence of the morning
Until the dark of night,
I’ve walked down many broken roads,
And stumbled from the weight of carrying the heavy loads.
The potholes of regret
Driven by curves of resentment,
Led to the road of no self-respect,
And the boulders of ignorance.
‘Til one day I traveled to a fork in the road,
Asked myself which road should I take?
The one filled with dust and heartache,
Or the ONE who is the giver of hope?
Afoot and affirmed in Jesus Christ’s love for me,
The road is no longer broken.
I’m a Child of God and I am Chosen,
For His grace has set me free.
I used to be the one filled with potholes of regret, curves of resentment and bitterness that led to the road of no self-respect to feeling of unworthiness. All this led to the boulders of ignorance and being hard on myself. I knew God loved me, but still I made the conscious choice of drowning in self-pity and feeling unloved by God.
Until one day I woke up and I had to make a choice when I came a fork in the road. Do I take the dirt road that is dusty and filled with heartache that is occupied by the Devil himself, or do I choose Jesus Christ, the ONE and only giver of hope?
Even on the days when I don’t feel as close to Jesus as I would like to be, I know the road is no longer broken for me. My heart may get a little broken now and then, but the actual ROAD is not as curvy or filled with as many potholes. I know now that I am loved by God and worthy of His love only because He himself created me. I am anew in Christ and His spirit lives in me. The names I take with me today are that I am a “CHILD OF GOD” and I am “CHOSEN.”

John 3:16(NLT) – For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Ephesians 2:10(NLT) – For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
1 Peter 2:9(NLT) – But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are a kingdom of priests, God’s holy nation, his very own possession. This is so you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Psalm 147:3(NLT) – He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds.
Proverbs 3:5-6(NLT) – Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
Question to ask yourself today: Are you currently on a broken road filled with empty promises or broken dreams? Has your heart been broken? Do you feel unworthy of God’s love? Friend, if you feel this way, I’ve been there. But one thing I want you to know if you feel this way today, God chose you. You are His child. He created you. You are His masterpiece. You are loved, and today He wants you to know that. God gave us the free will to choose the direction for our lives. God’s loving and amazing grace through the sacrifice of His one and only Son, Jesus Christ has set you free. But it is your choice to accept this free gift and know you are loved. Will you continue the broken road or choose the ONE who will and can lead you down the straight road?
Awesome Anne! Even though I am not on the dusty and road full of heartache, things do happen that will break your heart. I am lifting you in prayer as you wait for a sense of direction in your life. I am sure that God will reveal his path and plans for you when he is ready for you to know. Blessings to you friend.
This is certainly one from the mind and the heart. Usually, they are in conflict with one another, However, you have successfully put them together to see the guidance destination of security with God and Jesus Christ. This is a winner.
